The company behind the once-popular harbourside eatery, DConsult Pty Limited, went into administration just after the new year and was handed over to joint administrators Darren Vardy and Ian Purchas on January 3.
Creditors met yesterday to discuss the company’s financial position, learning it had debts of $440,000.
Mr Vardy told the Mercury there were a number of creditors owed money, including six employees who were waiting for unpaid annual leave entitlements and superannuation.
He said the exact amount of money owed was yet to be confirmed.
Mr Vardy noted that if the company went into liquidation and was unable to pay the workers, they would be able to claim their unpaid holiday entitlements under the government’s FEG (Fair Entitlements Guarantee) program.
Mr Vardy revealed one of the 26 unsecured creditors was owed the majority of the money but would not disclose the party, only noting it related to funds lent to initially purchase the business.
Creditors are due to meet again on February 10.
DConsult’s sole director Deanna Lea issued a statement earlier this month that said the company’s position was a result of a ‘‘series of complex ongoing issues’’.
The restaurant’s shock closure left several people with gift vouchers wondering whether they could redeem them.
Mr Vardy advised anyone with questions to contact the administrator’s Wollongong office on 4227 4086.
The future of the venue is still up in the air as discussions continue between the site’s landlord and one of the creditors.
