At a KPMG Wollongong client function last week, partner Peter Fitzgerald offered that view.
He described 2014 as a year for the city and region to stop talking and start doing.
Mr Fitzgerald knows not everyone will agree with his idea for a major tourism development at Mount Keira, but he said more could be done to drive a more prosperous economic future for the region.
That could help solve some of our problems, such as high youth unemployment, and reduce the need for commuting, he believes.
"If you could get a reasonable development in such a featured place as Mount Keira, that could drive a whole lot of activity and draw people to our region so that they can appreciate the fantastic place that we have to live," he said.
"There are very few places in the world where you can live ... about 10 or 15 minutes from beach and work."
