Youth Week in Wollongong will boast art shows, cabaret evenings and live bands before concluding 10 days later on April 12.
One of the biggest events on the schedule is the Globe Lane Art Markets (GLAM), with a line-up of young artists and performers to take over the laneway on Friday, April 11.
GLAM organiser Thea Stephenson, 18, said Youth Week presented a unique opportunity for young people's views to be pushed to the fore.
"Youth Week events are by young people, for young people," Ms Stephenson said.
"It's encouragement for us, to grow and build the voice of young people in the area."
Council's co-ordinator of youth services, Toby Schaefer-Darling, said young people's contribution to society was often overlooked.
"The whole essence of the week is getting people involved in any way we can," he said.
Youth Week includes a Lord Mayor's Great Debate featuring school students debating adults; young bands playing in the arts precinct; and a bumper Big Day In at Warrawong Community Centre. See wollongong.nsw.gov.au for more information.
