Light projections and art installations will illuminate the city until June 9, with bands including Pixies and The Pet Shop Boys, ideas events and film screenings highlighting the creative spark of Sydney.
Local bands The Maze and Tommy M & The Mastersounds, will play at the Maritime Museum in the Aquatic Nights events.
"We've all been to Vivid before and bands we have looked up to have played the festival, so it's awesome to be part of it," said Maze bassist Angus Bradley.
"It's pretty exciting. Probably the biggest thing we've been involved in."
The Illawarra acts bookend the schedule, with Tommy M playing on the second night and The Maze on the last night of Aquatic Nights - May 24 and June 9, respectively. Tommy M drummer Joe Mungovan and Maze frontman Zach Gervaise will play solo sets before their bands take the stage later in the evening.
Entry to Aquatic Nights is free, from 6pm each night. See vividsydney.com for more information.
