The William Beach Bushcare Group will be planting indigenous trees for National Tree Day on July 27.
The small dedicated group hope to have 40 volunteers help out on the day, including a Scout group.
They will be replacing weeds at William Beach
Memorial Park, Brownsville, with indigenous plants to rejuvenate the area, encourage more habitat for fauna and increase use of the reserve.
Bushcare group organiser Sandra Wheeler said more people are now using the reserve.
‘‘If the park looks nice, more people will want to enjoy it and they will take ownership and not litter,’’ Ms Wheeler said.
‘‘Rejuvenating the reserve will boost the flora and fauna and help the state of the creek.’’
The volunteers will be planting 350 small tube stock of grass, ground covers and dry rainforest trees.
‘‘The six regular volunteers are fabulous and work together really well. When they see the results of their hard work, they have a sense of pride and ownership,’’ Ms Wheeler said.
Ms Wheeler wants the day to encourage gardening education and get the community involved so they can meet other like-minded people.
She also hopes people will be educated about planting so they know the right and wrong plants in their own garden.
‘‘I love gardening and I hate weeds and I want the reserve to be a lovely spot that the community will use,’’ Ms Wheeler said.
The group will be at the park at the end of Prince Edward Drive from 10am.
Wollongong City Council will hold National Tree Day events at Greenhouse Park in Wollongong, Keiraville, Woonona and Cringila Park.
