Sattin, who goes by the stage name Mick On Wheels in a nod to the wheelchair he has used after his legs were paralysed due to a childhood bout of meningitis, wowed The X-Factor judges recently and is looking forward to doing the same at Jamberoo.
‘‘I’ve been doing this for the last 18 years, I’m a full-time musician and it’s something I love, it can be hard work but most of the time it’s fantastic,’’ he said.
Sattin draws inspiration from range of musicians and while he mainly performs covers, he does them in a way that is distinctly Mick On Wheels.
‘‘Danny Hathaway, AJ Green, Ray Charles are big inspirations and John Farnham is one of the more modern inspirations I draw on.
‘‘I slip in a few originals, but mainly I do covers though I try to do them in a way that is a bit unique.
‘‘I try to stay away from the more cliched songs and do some more obscure ones and try and give people something a bit different.’’
Sattin described performing on national TV and moving through to the second round of The X-Factor as ‘‘awesome,’’ but said that was for more than just the publicity he had received.
‘‘It was pretty awesome to perform on TV and I got a good response from the judges and the audience which was pretty good and I really enjoyed the whole thing.
‘‘But the big thing is the feedback I’ve got from people, other people with disabilities who said I’ve inspired them, that’s what makes it even better.’’
Mick On Wheels will perform at the Jamberoo Pub on Sunday, August 10 from 1pm
