More than 63 millimetres of rain fell in the 24 hours to Tuesday morning at Bellambi, while Port Kembla received 48 millimetres and Kiama was hit with 39 millimetres.
Strong winds kept many residents awake on Monday night with gusts of 78km/h in Bellambi and Kiama and 65km/h in Albion Park.
The wild weather kept SES crews busy with volunteers attending more than 40 jobs across the region.
Wollongong SES incident controller Ashley Sullivan said crews were still attending call-outs for leaking roofs and fallen trees.
The conditions also caused headaches for commuters on Tuesday morning, as flooding closed the Illawarra Highway in both directions at Albion Park.
Water also caused delays along Fern Street in Gerringong, while emergency roadworks held up vehicles in Belinda Street.
Mr Sullivan said the region was still sodden from days of heavy rain, and warned residents to stay away from floodwaters.
"There is still a considerable amount of water around so we just want people to be cautious," he said.
"We don't want people driving through floodwater or letting kids play in floodwater, it is still a risk and will be a risk well into Wednesday."
The SES has attended to 217 calls since Sunday.
But there was some good news for emergency crews and residents alike on Tuesday when a severe weather warning, in place for most of Monday, was canned.
Heavy rain eased on Tuesday with scattered showers around for most of the day.
Similar conditions are forecast for the rest of the week.
