Hiviz Events manager Claire Roberts has secured the block of land next to the Central Hotel to host the Shellharbour Central Twilight Market.
While waiting on final approval from the council, Mrs Roberts has called for expressions of interest from potential stall-holders.
"We have had a very positive reaction via our Facebook site, with more than 650 likes and more than 20 stall applications - and that is before we have even got final approval," Mrs Roberts said.
"I have run the markets out of the German Club at Bulli, but think this venue will be much more accessible, with plenty of parking.
"It is also a way of getting people off the highway, which can be a problem traffic-wise.
"Central Hotel has been extremely supportive and will also run their outside food section of the hotel during the markets for people who want to pop in for a bite.
"We will be looking for produce, home-made and variety stalls to make sure there is something for everyone.
"The success of other markets, particularly fresh food markets in the area, means this is what people want."
Shellharbour Central Hotel general manager Belinda Bleimuth said the markets were a "must" for the city centre area.
"It's not only a new stage of our extension, but another thing for the community, with another bonus being that it will bring more people into the city centre," Ms Bleimuth said.
"We are excited about the prospect of assisting to offer something that is more than just the hotel - and it will help promote the area as the entertainment hub of the city."
Mrs Roberts said the markets were slated to debut on October 9.
