It's been a long time between drinks for Wollongong superbike ace Brayden Carr.
In 2008 he toasted his first major sporting victory with an Australian Formula Extreme Championship title, having recorded a heartbreak second placing at the 600 championships a year earlier.
Since then he has enjoyed some thereabouts results without cracking a major title.
"It was only my second year of racing when I won in 2008 and it was awesome, but it's been a while in between wins now," Carr said.
"It would be great to reward the team for all their hard work."
Carr, 30, will be right in the finish at the Australasian Superbike Series when the results are tallied next month.
He is currently in third place with just two rounds left in the season.
The speed demon shot up the rankings thanks to a standout performance during round four at Victoria's Winton Raceway last month.
Carr finished in first place in the YMF Loan AFX-Superbike Championship event with two wins and a third from his three races.
He then placed second in the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship round by returning a first, second and fourth.
The series will head to Wakefield Park in Goulburn on Saturday week, then culminate with the last round in Sydney in late November.
With 150 points up for grabs and just a handful separating the top three riders, Carr can almost taste the champagne.
"I've just got to go for it, I want to win the championship," he said.
"I can't hold back now, I need to ride each race like it's my last."
Carr will draw confidence from familiar territory ahead of next week's trip to Goulburn.
He held the track record at Wakefield Park for two years after setting it during the 2011 season.
He knows the circuit like the back of his hand.
"I've had some good results at Wakefield in the past, so I don't mind racing there," he said.
