The company has asked the council to reclassify and then sell a parcel of land on Blackman Parade, not far from the Hargraves Street club.
The block is currently classified as community land, listed for public recreation, and cannot be sold unless the council reclassifies it as ‘‘operational land’’.
The club would not be drawn on its plans for the 569-square metre site, only noting the land was part of the club’s ‘‘overall master plan’’.
Wests already owns several portions of land around the Unanderra club, including the former church site on Blackman Parade and another block on Central Road.
The land grab comes just after Wests officially added Corrimal Leagues Club and Port Kembla Golf Club to its corporate profile.
The amalgamation of the clubs was given the green light by the state’s gaming body last month.
The council acquired the Blackman Parade lot in the 1970s.
It is one of about 25 sites in Unanderra being used by the council for ‘‘public recreation’’.
Wollongong City Council has advertised the proposal.
Comments on the plan need to be with the council by October 1.
