Kaine Eager did not apply for bail during a brief court appearance via video-link on Sunday where the matter was adjourned for mention on Monday.
The 26-year-old is accused of stealing a taxi from outside Westfield Warrawong about 7.15am on Saturday while the driver was out of the vehicle.
Police were called and claim a short time later they spotted the taxi driving on Colliery Road, Avondale, and began a pursuit.
The pursuit ended about three minutes later on Cleveland Street, Dapto, when the taxi stopped and Kaine allegedly ran from the car.
Police will allege the Thirroul man then attempted to carjack another vehicle while armed with a knife and was subdued by officers.
He was arrested and taken to Shellharbour Hospital to undergo blood and urine testing before being charged at Lake Illawarra Police Station.
Kaine is now facing six charges, including police pursuit (Skye’s Law), taking a car without consent, reckless driving, unlicensed driving, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
