On Saturday, the Dragon Boat Challenge was held at Skiway Park, Oak Flats.
27 teams made up of corporate/community, schools and sports battled it out over the 200 metres.
The day started out a little cloudy, but turned out to be a warm sunny day. There were plenty of cheers from spectators with teams paddling it out over three heats before the finals were held.
The Sports Final saw the Illawarra Red Dragons take it out a time of 56.04 followed closely by the Blue Inlet Dragons with a time of 58.92.
The School Final saw Holy Spirit College – Soul Roar come in first with a time of 58.42 followed closely by the SMERC 1 (St Mary's & Edmund Rice combined team) with a time of 58.65.
The Community/Corporate Minor Final saw Shellharbour City Council Slickers come in first with a time of 58.89 followed closely by the Jamberoo Public School P&C with a time of 58.98.
At the end of the day - the Community/Corporate major final saw first timers Club O2 Health and Fitness take out the title of 2015 Dragon Boat Challenge winners and being provided the perpetual trophy with a time of 55.29 with Cardiac Capers followed close behind with a time of 56.17.
Over 200 eager walkers and runners turned out for the Shellharbour City Festival of Sport’s Shell Cove Walk or Run for Fun on Sunday.
This event provides a 5km walk and run and a 9km run only.
The 9km course was more challenging with a few hills to tackle that the competitors enjoyed.
The 5km course around the reserves of Shell Cove saw the front runners coming in just over 23 minutes.
Senior Male's across the line included Craig Roach, Duncan Best and Tim McLeod. First place female senior was Teresha Moxham, closely followed by Simone Allchin.
Junior male of the 5km was Nathan Scollary followed by Jacob Sterjovski and Kane Golding. Tahlia Moxham was the first junior female across the line followed closely by sisters Erin and Ella Wooldridge.
The challenging 9km saw Senior Male's Gordon Muller, Chris Fraser and Adam Murray with times just over 40 minutes. Karon Larder was the first Senior Female over the line with a time of 41.50 followed closely by Tracey O'Donnell and Katie Russell.
Entertainment kept the crowd including the kids entertained as well as a free golfarama inflatable activity for all to enjoy gave everyone time to catch their breath then the draw began which saw everyone have a chance to win some fantastic prizes that were kindly donated by local businesses.
No one went home empty handed, whether you were first or bringing home the rear of the field - all entrants received a certificate, drink bottle and a piece of fruit.
After a successful Walk or Run event and must needed funds for the Shellharbour Hospital Auxiliary and the Cancer Council you will see us all back to do it all again next year.
On Sunday afternoon, the inaugural three-on-three basketball tournament was held at Shellharbour City Stadium.
Eight teams battled it out before the finals were held between the Amigo's and the Obi One teams. The Amigo's took out the tournament and all are keen to be involved again next year.
