Mr Park, who is also the opposition spokesman for transport and infrastructure, said the increase in development in the northern suburbs was putting extra pressure on the existing road network.
"I think it's becoming more urgent," Mr Park said of the need for the extension.
"That's because we've had land releases and developments in Thirroul at Sandon Point and McCauleys and we've now got the Brickworks estate at Bulli about to come online," he said.
"We already know, those of us who use it frequently, that Memorial Drive is getting busier and busier. Even RMS acknowledge that.
"That means when you come off Memorial Drive that the very restricted areas through the highway are also a problem."
Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) is conducting a study of suggested routes to determine the best option for any future upgrade.
No funding for an upgrade has been allocated by the government.
An RMS spokesman has said the investigations were expected to be released by June and Mr Park called for it to be available to the public as soon as possible.
"We need to make sure this information gets out there as soon as possible so that we can start having some dialogue with the community about what is arguably one of the most important road links in the region," he said.
Roads Minister Duncan Gay was contacted for comment.
