Illawarra’s KJ Industrial Scaffolding was presented with the prestigious Host Innovation Award at the 2016 HVTC Excellence Awards last month.
KJ Industrial Scaffolding was recognised by the group training organisation for its role in identifying the need for an industrially trained, multi-ticketed scaffolder and developing a nationally recognised program that addressed this training shortfall.
The host employer and HVTC, in consultation with TAFE Illawarra and Training Services NSW, developed and implemented a customised scaffolding qualification to suit an industrial work environment.

“All parties were committed to finding a way to get this innovative program off the ground. Supplying cost-effective training that produced dedicated and career focused employees to meet the needs of the construction industry was a shared goal,” said HVTC Illawarra manager Debbie Boyd.
Jaysen Whitbread, WHS coordinator, KJ Industrial Scaffolding, thanked HVTC for sharing the company’s passion to develop the program and commitment to the welfare of its trainees.
“We’re thrilled to have received this award and be recognised for our role in the creation of this course. Our aim is to add 12 trainees to our workforce each year after their successful completion of the two year Certificate III in Scaffolding traineeship,” said Jaysen.
HVTC will be an exhibitor at the Illawarra Schools Careers Expo.
