Clubs NSW president and former Illawarra Mercury general manager Peter Newell OAM had everyone enthralled on Friday when he was featured as a Local Legend at the City Beach Function Centre.
Mr Newell is one of a series of people being interviewed by Marty Haynes in front of a live audience this year. And he provided a colourful look back over his career and time in Wollongong. He talked about everything from the big stories that were covered during his time at the newspaper to his role with Clubs NSW and support of horse racing and the Dragons.
Future lunches include Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells on June 17 and Peoplecare chief executive Michael Bassingthwaighte on July 22.
The monthly events are organised by City Beach Events Weddings general manager Mark Davie who said the concept was about giving people the chance to hear the stories behind some of the region’s most influential personalities.
And this Thursday NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg, Racing NSW chief executive Peter V’Landys. Wide World of Sport presenter Yvonne Sampson and comedian Paul Martell will attend a sports enthusiasts lunch organised by Bob Millward to support local Rugby League in the Illawarra.
