The 56-year-old woman suffered possible facial fractures, a head injury and pelvic injuries in the collision.
Ambulance NSW Illawarra duty operations manager Inspector Norm Rees said the woman was leaving the hospital when the crash occurred.
“She's got mid-way across the road and it looks like the mirror of the 4WD has hit her in the face,” he said.
An off-duty doctor was first to come to the injured woman’s aid; NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived soon after.
