The ‘Honey/Westhoff Team’ will be led by Jamberoo dairy farmer and current councillor Mark Honey, 64.
The team also includes Mark Westhoff, David Munro, Carmel Goldsmith and Barry Wilson.
“As a result of the positive outcome following the recent threatened amalgamation of our council with Shoalhaven City Council, we are well aware that Kiama is now under the spotlight,” Cr Honey said.
“With the challenge of retaining Kiama’s independence and financial future, it was essential to put together an experienced and diversified team.”
Running second on the ticket is long-time Gerringong resident Mr Westhoff, whose roles include current presidency of Gerringong Lions Club.
He was a teacher for 35 years, with 20 of those at Gerringong Public School.
Mr Munro is running third on the ticket. He has worked as a teacher in tourism, hospitality and event management with TAFE, while also serving as Teachers Federation Representative.
He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the Army and has seen overseas service in Bougainville, Bosnia, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Mrs Goldsmith worked with husband Trevor in the Jamberoo and Kiama Downs IGA supermarkets for more than 20 years.
She has been involved in a number of community organisations including the Kiama and District Chamber Of Commerce, Jamberoo Cubs and Scouts and Jamberoo Public School.
Mr Wilson has 30 years of journalism and publishing experience, including being a former managing editor of the Kiama Independent.
He is a long-standing member of Kiama Rotary.
“If elected for the second term on council, I would bring experience and knowledge to help see the completion of the Aged Care Centre of Excellence, finalisation of the Akuna Street/Terralong Street development incorporating a new supermarket and additional car parking, and establish long-term planning and building controls throughout the municipality with the view to develop a long-term vision for the future,” Cr Honey said.
“Balanced development within town boundaries has always been a priority for every member of our team.
“The team will focus on encouraging employment through business and tourism initiatives, and start planning for the future development of the quarries at Bombo for high-tech industries when they cease operating in the near future."
Outgoing Kiama Mayor Brian Petschler has endorsed the Honey/Westhoff Team.
“I believe that in light of experiences in neighbouring councils it is important for there to be no ‘party politics’ or caucusing on council, and we realise that a wide range of experience is necessary to maintain and develop Kiama council’s financial independence and future stability,” Cr Petschler said.
At the 2012 council election, the Petschler/Honey ticket won 28.9 per cent of the first preference votes, securing positions for Cr Petschler and Cr Honey.
