With this in mind, land care group Bushcare is holding a “Major Day Out” (BMDO) at Elizabeth Brownlee Reserve in Albion Park on September 10. It is the brainchild of long-time Sydney bushcarer Don Wilson, 85, to boost awareness of weeds with a national day of community bush regeneration.
Activities at the reserve will include tree planting, lantana removal, installing bat boxes, a free barbecue lunch, and a guides tour of the reserve.
“[Weeds] now account for about 15 per cent of the total flora across Australia – and this means our native species are being increasingly displaced,” Mr Wilson said.
