In 2015, the Breakers returned to women’s football in the Shoalhaven competition after a few years’ absence, taking out both first grade and reserve grade championships and premierships.
This year’s grand finals were played on Tuesday night at Ison Park, South Nowra.
First grade lost only one game all season, before winning their semi-final and grand final.
Star player Chelsea Ford left mid-season to play college football in Virginia, leaving a large hole in the midfield.
Gabbie Burns stepped up and formed a great partnership with Kelsey Wishart.
The Breakers were relentless in attack, scoring in excess of 100 goals for the season.
Defensively the Breakers were sound, only conceding seven goals throughout the year.
In the grand final against Shoalhaven United, the Breakers applied early pressure and led 1-0 at half-time.
In the second half the Breakers immediately applied pressure on United’s defence and were rewarded with their second goal.
United kept the pressure up and tried valiantly to get back into the game, but good defence and some brave goal-keeping held firm.
Breakers were constantly creating chances and were unlucky not go further ahead.
The final result was a 2-0 victory to the Breakers.
Reserve grade lost their first game of the season to Bomaderry, and then went on to win every game from that point, including the grand final against Bomaderry 2-0.
They were easily the dominant team all season, scoring 79 goals and only conceding eight.
The grand final against Bomaderry was a close affair.
Bomaderry refused to take a backward step and held a good defensive structure as the Breakers probed away.
Their chance came after 20 minutes, heading home the opening goal to give the Breakers a well-deserved lead.
They had other attacking chances but last-ditch defence kept them out.
They were up 1-0 at half-time, and in the second half the Breakers were again strong.
Gerringong doubled their lead when an attacking header from the corner proved unstoppable.
Gerringong ran out 2-0 winners, a fantastic result for quite a young team.
