Viva la Gong is going local in a big way in 2016.
So there will be more local bands, local artists, local circus performers and local community singers and dancers than ever before at MacCabe Park on Saturday, November 12.
“This year we are placing greater emphasis on getting all community artists, performers, circus acts and community groups involved,’’ Wollongong City Council cultural services coordinator Megan McKell said.
One of the best arts and cultural festivals in NSW starts with a street parade from the Arts Precinct at 11am where street paraders will wind their way through the Crown Street Mall and into MacCabe Park for the official opening.
“There’s so much on offer,’’ Ms McKell said.
“It’s a great day for all community members to bring the family to visit MacCabe Park and celebrate our local artists, performers and enjoy the wonderful foods and art events we have on offer.’’
The first Viva la Gong festival was held in 2000 and grew out of the Folklorica and Open Up festivals.
