Tongegato, from Wollongong scored a try as the Aussies beat New Zealand to win gold in Rio earlier this year.
After scoring 50 tries in the last world series competition, Tonegato has been named alongside Charlotte Caslick, Chloe Dalton, Shannon Parry, Amy Turner in the players’ player nominations.
“There have been some fantastic moments for our Sevens teams this year and some amazing individual efforts from our players,” ARU high performance Ben Whitaker said.
“From the women winning gold at the Rio Olympic Games, to the men making the final against New Zealand at a thrilling Sydney Sevens, this year we witnessed some unforgettable milestones for Australian Sevens.”
The players’ player award winner will be announced at the annual ARU luncheon.
Bulli’s Nicole Beck was also part of the Australian gold medal-winning team in Rio.
