Helensburgh Pharmacy recognises the importance of knowing your blood pressure.
High blood pressure is sometimes called the ‘silent killer’ because sufferers can show no symptoms. It is a major risk factor for stroke, heart and blood vessel disease (together known as ‘cardiovascular disease’).
Blood pressure changes during the day to meet your body’s needs. So one high reading may need to be re-checked. Consistently high blood pressure is a risk and it is important to know your blood pressure.

“Here at Helensburgh Pharmacy we offer FREE blood pressure testing on a daily basis,” Leanne from Helensburgh Pharmacy said.
“In the privacy of our consultation room one of our trained staff can monitor this for you daily.”
It has also been estimated that about 15 per cent of people who have elevated blood pressure readings taken at the doctor’s surgery actually have acceptable levels outside the surgery, when under normal stress levels. This is known as ‘white coat hypertension’.
Having your blood pressure tested at the pharmacy can help you find out what your actual blood pressure is.
“Here at Helensburgh Pharmacy our staff can demonstrate to you the correct use of self-monitoring blood pressure and alternatively do regular blood pressure testing for you,” Leanne said.
“There is no need to make an appointment. Just come in anytime during opening hours.
“There is always someone here who is trained to take blood pressure, even on the weekends.
“We want our customers to know that we are never too busy and it is never an inconvenience. So please ask and we will be happy to help.”
High blood pressure is the most important risk factor for stroke that you can monitor and change.
Maintaining a healthy weight, being active, reducing salt intake, making healthy food choices, limiting alcohol and seeking help to stop smoking will go towards reducing your risk.
