The Illawarra Mercury deputy editor and mother of two has vowed to walk the entire journey of the 2017 Wollongong Relay for Life at Beaton Park.
Named as an Cancer Council ambassador for the event, Cyd is sharing her own inspirational personal story as a message of hope to people diagnosed with cancer and is vowing to walk the most laps ever of any relay participant.
“I love a personal challenge so walking the entire 24 hours of the upcoming Relay for Life seemed like the logical thing to do,” she said.
“It will challenge me mentally and physically and remind us all that a cancer diagnosis doesn't define you.
“On the flip side, I can't think of a better charity to support. Not only have I had my own diagnosis, but I have people close to my heart who will never get the 'all clear'. Others have died.
“So it's time to step up and set a new record for the most laps walked in 24 hours for the Cancer Council and it's amazing team.”
Cancer Council NSW (Southern Region) community engagement manager Grant Plecas said the organisation was thrilled to have a new ambassador.
“When Cyd shared her touching bio she shared with me it hit the point and I know it will allow people on that journey to understand and be filled with hope,’’ Mr Plecas said.
“People will be inspired by Cydonee and her journey. For Cyd to put hand up and walk 24 hours it takes the cause to the next level cause and shows she will not let cancer stop her from being the person she wants to be.”
