One of Mrs Kavanagh’s goals is to help everyone understand autism and one vehicle for that is through her art. In early 2016 she spoke about A Different Brilliant at a Care & Share High Tea by the Sea. She followed that up with a solo exhibition called Beyond the Beyond at Project Contemporary Artspace
Mrs Kavanagh, of Corrimal, loves painting a picture that can help change perceptions with both words and art. She positively states that she and her children share a place on the autism spectrum which she says gives people a different kind of brilliant. And she is keen to showcase it to help remove labels for all people with autism or asperger’s because everyone is an individual. “A diagnosis does not define who you are.”
Mrs Kavanagh said people on the autism spectrum can have many wonderful gifts and traits and a way with art and words were two of hers.
The Elsewhere & Other Places exhibition offically opens on September 8 and 6pm but runs from September 6 to 24 from 10am to 4pm.
