A mother's baby dream is realised

When Vesna and Matthew Jonson decided to start trying for a family, things didn’t quite go according to plan.

“We spent over a year trying to fall pregnant but nothing happened. So I went to my GP and she referred me to Dr Greening,” Vesna said.

Dr David Greening is a highly respected, Wollongong based, fertility specialist, obstetrician and gynaecologist. After going through the testing process, Vesna started ovulation induction.

“I was only in my 20s so we were hoping I would be able to fall pregnant with limited assistance,” Vesna said.

“I fell pregnant but unfortunately this pregnancy ended in an ectopic pregnancy (an ectopic pregnancy is where the fertilised egg implants somewhere outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube, and cannot continue to develop).

“A few months after I recovered we moved onto IVF treatment and I fell pregnant straight away.”

While all was going well with the baby, Vesna faced other complications.

“It was discovered that I had a blood clot in my internal jugular vein. I ended up in emergency a few times and had to be referred to a local haematologist,” Vesna said.

“Through all this Dr Greening was just wonderful. He rushed to the hospital to see me and closely monitored the baby and I.

“Amist all the drama I knew I was in the best hands; he looked after us so well.”

In January 2015, Vesna and Matthew welcomed their son Riccardo into the world.

Nearly two years later, the Jonson’s returned to see Dr Greening in the hope of having a sibling for Riccardo.

“We went through IVF again and I was lucky enough to fall pregnant again on the first try and in April 2017 Miranda was born. We went through The Fertility Centre for our IVF treatment with Miranda and we found the experience very positive.

“While it is a low-cost IVF clinic we found there was no difference in the process or in the service from the clinic we used for our first pregnancy.

“The staff at The Fertility Centre and at Dr Greening’s office were amazing. I have dealt with other healthcare professionals but nothing compares to the professional setup, caring midwives and staff.

“It was a great experience. I felt supported and cared for every step of the way.”
