Santa was all at sea when he visited Wollongong on Thursday to visit 4300 special children waiting at WIN Entertainment Centre for the annual KidzWish Christmas Party.
But thanks to Mrs Claus and Wollongong lifeguards he was soon given a big warm Wollongong welcome escorted by lifesavers to the biggest kids party of the year.
Run with the help of volunteers and businesses such as McDonalds, Finance Control, Stockland Shellharbour and QBE the party is always met with eager anticipation and big smiles by the thousands for children such as Ashton Binskin.
Mum Renee Jurgielan said usually her son did not like to be around a lot of children and noise but the KidzWish Party is an event like no other.
“Ashton has been looking forward to this. He loves Santa and is relaxed. We have prepared him for weeks now. We need to do social stories to let him know what he is coming and he has been loving it”.
Ms Jurgielan said KidzWish had been a wonderful support for Ashton with occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy.
She said it was a wonderful organisation to have in Wollongong for families with children with special needs.
Following a successful more than 700 business and civic leaders will support the Illawarra charity for local children at the annual KidzWish fundraising ball on Friday night at the WIN Entertainment Centre.
