The 27 year old surfing sensation from Gerroa visited the book store in Wollongong just before Midday for a two hour signing session of her new book Summer Fit All Year Round.
Georgie Purcell, 10, of Wollongong could not believe her luck when Sally Fitzgibbons waved her and a group of young girls who had lined up over to be in the photo.
And when Super Sally rested her hand on her shoulder she became almost speechless of what the internationally acclaimed sport-star from the South Coast had done.
Georgie had never met her hero before and lined up to get a cope of her new book signed because she was such an inspiration. “I really want to meet Sally Fitzgibbons”.
Mother Jen Purcell said her daughter followed Fitzgibbons on Instagram and loved sport herself.
Sally said her new book was about helping people of call ages become the best version of themselves they can be.
It is the second time in 12 months the World Surf League Championship Tour contender and personal trainer has inspired her many fans to live a healthy, balanced life. A year ago she launched the All Australian Beach Body App. Now she has followed that up with Summer Fit All Year Round.
The book is essentially a four-week food and fitness plan with practical tips to help readers take care of themselves every season. There are high-energy workouts for all abilities along with a selection of her favourite wholefood recipes.
Super Sally willingly displayed er passion and encouraged the children and adults whole lined up on Friday to embrace healthy food choices and a positive mindset. She said by taking care of themselves people could enjoy everything life has to offer.
“It’s important to think about your health and happiness like a recipe. No one ingredient makes the dish complete. And if one ingredient is past its use-by date the whole dish is going to go bad. We need to take care of all the ingredients. Our food and drink, exercise and rest. They are all equally important to finding our ultimate self.”
Asked about how she was so happy all the time she said “I think I am just loving life”.
With Australia Day coming up she said she was just fortunate to have grown up on the South Coast, where she will never leave, and be an Aussie.
“To live by the coast and in the ocean just gives me so much joy. And I am really passionate about what I do. Being from the South Coast and growing up in Gerroa, the area just has my heart. It is amazing where my sport has taken me around the world. I get to adventure but the beauty is then I get to come home to this spectacular location.”
Sally loves the open space and rolling hills near where she grew up and really enjoys having them all to her self sometimes. She said her App and book were amazing to be involved with because it was a chance to share her vision.
“Beyond my sport I just want to leave a footprint and leave people with the feeling I get from being healthy and active in the outdoors. It creates this energy and spark in life. I want to create tools for people to use their own imagination of what movement can bring to their lives and their families. Summer Fit has over 100 of my favourite recipes. I love my food. There is a 28 day meal plan and some training exercises. It is a tool people can use if they have had an exhausting day and can’t think of what they can do to get out there and get active and eat healthy they can just open up the book, find a page and here they go.”
Sally wants to surf as long as she can because she loves her sport. She also likes challenging herself and trying new things such as writing a book.
