The Improverts, Wollongong’s only improvised comedy group, will perform their second ever completely improvised show at The Phoenix Theatre in Coniston on Saturday night. It follows on from their inaugural show late last year which sold out.
Performer and regular around Wollongong’s stand-up comedy scene, Adam Armitt, said it’s similar to television programs such as Whose Line is it Anyway or Thank God You’re Here. The direction of the show is largely steered by the audience such as characters, locations and scenarios the cast will play out.
“The hardest thing is not knowing if people are going to laugh until you’ve performed,” he said.
“You’re like ‘yep this is hilarious’ and then once it’s left your mouth before you get that [audience] response there’s that thought ‘this might be not funny at all’.”
The cast of 10 include a diverse group aged from 20 to mid-30s including Armitt, Alexander Cuff, Dylan Horvat, Jen Jackson, Sam Lovell, Vu Moyo, Lisa Omodei, Michelle Rakos, Glenn Wanstall and Jarrod Riesinger.
The Improverts do Wollongong Round #2 at The Phoenix Theatre, Bridge Street in Coniston, February 10. Tickets are $15 and on the door.
