It was a pledge made during the 2015 state election by former Wollongong MP Noreen Hay and which is now carried by sitting MP Paul Scully.
Mr Scully said the funding to replace the 72 steps at the station with lifts would appear in the first Labor budget if the party wins the 2019 election.
“The 72-step challenge that the elderly, parents with prams, commuters with bags, and people with a disability will be over,” Mr Scully said.
“They will be able to a press a button, get into the lifts, and be safely able to access the Unanderra station platform to catch their trains at their local station.”
Labor’s Transport spokeswoman Jodi McKay said the Berejiklian government was “putting politics ahead of people with disabilities”.
“The government needs to lift its game and fund the installation of lifts at Unanderra station in the upcoming State budget,” Ms McKay said.
Transport for NSW has previously confirmed the station will be upgraded – possibly with three lifts – but has so far declined to provide a timeline for work to commence.
