More than 60 sculptures of varying sizes and materials will be placed around Reflections Killalea Reserve from September 14 to 23, with $10,000 in cash and prizes available for winning artists.
Killalea Reserve Manager Nathan Cattell said the event was a major tourism driver for the region and an opportunity for emerging artists to be seen in the public eye.
“The amount of local representation present is also amazing and speaks volumes for the calibre of artistic and musical talent in the area,” he said.
“In 2017, close to 30,000 people came to wander, explore and purchase works on exhibition. Sculptures at Killalea not only has a huge impact on park visitation but also has a great flow on effect for local businesses and accommodation within the area as well.”
The 10-day festival also hosts a number of art workshops for all ages, live demonstrations, markets, free entertainment plus other associated events.
In 2017, Sam Sanderson’s work “Bwindi” was named the major winner – taking home $5000.
No experience is necessary and festival organisers are urging those with a passion for all things creative to use this opportunity to have their works showcased alongside some of the country’s most famous sculptors.
Applications for artists and schools close on July 30. For the schedule of events and application details visit: www.sculpturesatkillalea.com.au.
