Just one of the child car seats tested at the NSW Crashlab scored the maximum five stars while six scored just a single star.

While all seats tested complied with Australian Standards, it was the rear-facing Nuna Klik that got top marks for protection.

The one-star seats included the rear-facing Maxi-Cosi Citi and the forward facing Babylove Cosmic 11.

Roads Minister Melinda Pavey said the government had released star ratings for all car seats, which were tested for protection and how easy they were to install and use correctly.

“Every parent wants the best for their kids. This new star system will make that decision straight forward,” Ms Pavey said.
