Wayne doesn’t know if it was he or his best mate Mike Tyler who suggested the gimmick first, but said it was a by-product of them chatting about life one day.
“The movie Magic Mike just came out ... and we were talking one night about how people kept saying to him ‘can you make your clothes disappear’ or ‘how big’s your magic wand’,” the former Toasted TV host said.
A gold mine of an idea clicked and the pair have been touring the world as The Naked Magicians ever since, having played 220 shows across seven countries.
But it hasn’t been an easy feat – the duo, who have been working as professional magicians for years, had to re-learn their tricks because there is nowhere to hide when you have no clothes on.
“We had to reinvent everything we did in the show, from a creative perspective, because we wanted the magic to be incredible,” Wayne said.
“We [don’t] have sleeves or top hats or pockets to hide our stuff in anymore. But when you’re standing there with your six-pack and no clothes on you’ve got the best misdirection in the world.”

One of the perks of the job has been meeting his idol David Copperfield. When Wayne was eight his grandfather showed him a video tape of the great American illusionist and that is what began his infatuation with magic.
“Mike and I were at the start of our second tour of the US … we went and saw his show and he actually recognised us [after seeing] us in the audience,” he said.
“We were invited backstage to hang out with him and meet him after the show which for both of us just blew our minds.”
Generally the audience to their shows are predominantly women, although they do have a huge following from the gay community. Regardless your gender, Wayne guarantees the show is full of comedy as they drop their dacks and end with a “metaphorical and literal climax” – their funniest and most outrageous trick.
