Damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h, with peak gusts in excess of 90km/h are possible.
A southerly wind change is forecast to move up the coast later this evening, extending to the Hunter coast by late Monday morning.
Showers associated with this change may bring damaging wind gust for parts of the coastal fringe.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle and Gosford.
The severe weather warning follows three days of wilds winds that have downed trees across the city, cut electricity and sent a trampoline flying into power lines and on the Princes Highway.
Wet weather will follow to start the working week.
There’s a very high chance of showers on Monday, with up to 30 millimetres of rain possible in the city.
Tuesday will also bring a very high chance of showers, with 10-25mm expected.
