Bluefin bite as winter arrives

However, it did nothing to down too many fishos spirits with reports of some excellent offshore tuna fishing as well as rock and beach fishing prior to the Antarctic blast.

Plenty of reports of good sized southern bluefin tuna came in from further down the coastline from offshore at Eden to Narooma with multiple boats getting in on the action. 

On Wednesday just gone, Luke received a mobile call from a crew off Narooma that had the bluefin in their burley trail and under their boat.

Several anglers were hooked up and fighting while other tuna zipped in and out of view ranging from 40 kilo to thumpers easily twice that size and bigger.

Hopefully this weekend’s favourable forecast is accurate as there are plenty of local boats and crews just waiting for Friday’s knock off time to arrive.

Closer to home, all the attention last weekend was again concentrated on the schools of luderick that moved into our sheltered harbours as the sea rose with strong southerlies. 

Bellambi, Wollongong, Port and Kiama harbours all had good numbers of these fish move in over the weekend and earlier in the week with some solid bronzed sided fish in amongst them. 

There was plenty of fresh weed if you knew where to look but remember to only take what you need for your session and not be greedy and wasteful.

For those who couldn’t find the weed again the artificial flies still worked a treat, although you needed snow gear to head for a fish. 

There were still plenty of keen souls that took on the weather and were rewarded with a good feed.

Snapper fishos are again chomping at the bit to get out amongst what should be a great bite this weekend with the third bump just this month hopefully abating enough to safely fish the inshore reefs.

Despite the seas and wind, the cuttlefish were seen popping and a few washed up on the beaches that gave the sea birds an easy if not smelly feed.
