On Thursday a Mercury story showed the interior of a prototype of the new trains due to hit the South Coast line in 2021 but, judging by Facebook comments, readers were unimpressed.
“How will it be more comfortable and pleasant when it has less seats on a train which is already standing room only?” asked Joel Murray.
Like many others, Bec Parker was not a fan of the fixed seats.
“So half of the passengers are forced to travel backwards. That's really ‘forward’ planning,” she wrote.
These sentiments were echoed by Kim Beddow.
“So when I have to travel backwards I can puke. Yeah real comfortable,” she wrote.
Tony Prescott wanted to know why the Blue Mountains was getting the new trains ahead of the South Coast.
“South Coast is the second busiest line, they should be allocated in order of need,” he wrote.
Transport for NSW has said those lines with older trains are being addressed first.
