Wollongong City Council has granted the tender to build the 298-metre bridge over Mullet Creek and the South Coast rail line to Abergeldie Contractors.
The $40 million contract will also include the installation of traffic lights at Fairwater Drive and Daisy Bank Drive and upgrades to the Fowlers Road intersections with Fairwater Drive and the Princes Highway.
“This is a momentous occasion for council,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery said.
“Not only is this one of the biggest contracts council has awarded, but it will see the completion of the Fowlers Road to Fairwater Drive project.

“This vital link road will provide flood-reliable access to the residents of West Dapto to the Dapto town centre, the Princes Highway and the M1 Motorway.”
Work on the bridge – which will see as many as 3.3 million cars a year – is expected to begin shortly and should be completed by 2020.
“This stage of the project will require council to work closely with Sydney Trains to ensure that we have everything in place to construct the bridge over the South Coast rail line,” Cr Bradbery said.
