On Saturday the eatery in the former Char Char Restaurant site is the first of two new bars and restaurants being opened by WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre.
This weekend will give visitors and locals a taste of things to come when both venues operate on event days at WIN Entertainment Centre and WIN Stadium.
Furphy’s will throw open its doors for the first time at noon on Saturday and not close until late so those going to the Dragons vs Warriors game can enjoy live entertainment and food before and after the game.
WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre venue manager Marc Swan said Saturday was the first chance to get a sneak peek of what is being planned..
The move to open two new bars and eateries at the former Char Char and Char Grilled sites will create more casual employment opportunities as additional kitchen and hospitality staff will now be required on event and game days. This Saturday is a trial and that process will be reviewed as a result of the experience and feedback.
“It has all been a hive of activity this week getting the first bar ready,” Mr Swan said.
The official opening won’t be until late August but the Dragon’s home game and Bob Dylan will be treated like a soft launch to fine tune the new additional operation for WIN Sports and Entertainment Centre.
The new venue will specifically target concert goers and sporting fans on event days but will also be open to anyone else when it is in operation..
“We are going to open it at midday on Saturday and it will stay open after the Dragons game. We are going to have some entertainment happening there as well. There will be a bit of live music and some new Furphy on tap,” Mr Swan said.
“The Furphy Bar and Restaurant is going to operate on both WIN Entertainment Centre and WIN Stadium event days.
“So for example we will open it before Bob Dylan, we will open it before Cher and we will open it before Southern Stars. It is going to be a pop-up events space.
“It is not going to operate every Friday and Saturday night.”
