This year celebrates the 18th year of Southern Stars and in that time it has indeed become an iconic part of our region’s rich tapestry of events.
This year’s arena spectacular, which showcases all the wonderful creativity in our schools, has been titled ‘Iconic’ and it is a well-earned title indeed.
Executive Producer Ian Millard said the theme of the show was selected to set high expectations for the creative team, the performers, and the audience.
“We have really set the bar high this year with our theme of Iconic, and we aim to deliver a huge show,” Mr Millard said.
“I’m very confident that we can do the title, Iconic, justice. We will look at iconic culture, iconic places, iconic people, iconic fashion, iconic times, and iconic music.
The logistics to pull this show together is immense and every single person who has a hand in it deserves the highest of praise.
Over 3000 performers from over 120 public schools will feature in this year’s show.
Those performers come from schools as near as Wollongong Public School and as far as Norfolk Island Central School.
This year the show feature a choir 700 people strong.
It features singers, dancers, circus performers and drama students as well as a live orchestra.
The Department of Education aimed to make Iconic the biggest ever Southern Stars in history and it more than appears they have reached that achievement.
An estimated 12,000 people are expected to attend the four Southern Stars shows.
Two of those performances were held on Friday and there will be another two on Saturday, one at 2pm and 7.30pm.
If you have nothing on your agenda this Saturday make sure you get along to the WIN Entertainment Centre to view what is indeed an iconic event and see these students reach for the stars.
