A Wollongong PR consultancy owner has done the city proud by finishing third in a field of 14 finalists and thousands of entries in a national award.
Lisa Burling, of LBPR, was recognised at the Rising Star category of the AusMumpreneur Awards in Melbourne on Friday night.
The category recognises exceptional first-time business owners who have been in business for two to five years.
The annual AusMumpreneur awards recognise the growing number of mums who are achieving outstanding business success while balancing motherhood.
Ms Burling said attending the awards event and conference was a reward in itself.
“I had the privilege of connecting with mums from all over Australia who are pursuing entrepreneurial endeavours while raising a family,” she said.
“The calibre of finalists was awe-inspiring to say the least. Many of these ladies are household names.
“To be a finalist myself was truly amazing, but to come third nationally in the Rising Star category was a dream come true. I was so proud to represent the Illawarra region.”

Ms Burling said hoped the success of all the mothers who entered the awards and publicity surrounding the event would inspire other women, especially single mums, to know they can be and do anything, if they’re willing to work hard and never give up.
“The awards really are 0.01 per cent of what entrepreneurs actually do. Behind the trophies and glamourous outfits are hours of dedication, lack of sleep, and a constant need to believe in yourself, regardless of what’s going on around you,” she said.
AusMumpreneur Network co-founder Katy Garner said the awards showcase the passion of women who want to fulfil their entrepreneurial dreams as well as be great mums.
“The number of women starting businesses continues to grow and we received thousands of nominations this year,” she said.
