It is however, exactly how Jamberoo Action Park, NSW’s largest family owned and operated theme park, began.
The land which is now Jamberoo Action Park was originally purchased by the Eddy family in 1974 with the intention to be a dairy farm.
After legislation on milk quotas made this untenable, the Eddy family successfully trialled a grass skiing venture and soon after, the decision was made to embark on the creation of a recreation park with amenities, restaurant, carpark and chairlift.
With further development over the years it has become 40 hectares (100 acres) of amazing aqua play enjoyment, landscaped gardens and parklands with a range of water rides, slides and attractions.
In 2012, the theme park opened the Funnel Web, which at the time was the longest, biggest, most exhilarating water thrill ride, along with Banjo’s Billabong, the largest aqua play structure built in the Southern Hemisphere that features a huge water bucket, which tips 1200 litres of water over the structure every few minutes.

The most recent addition is The Perfect Storm, the tallest, longest, most exciting water ride, built of its kind, in the world where thrill-seekers experience zero-gravity, in complete darkness, twisting up and down, back and forth inside the vortex.
These rides are part of the Kangaroo Island masterplan to be built in multiple stages over the coming years.
The park is owned and operated by Jim Eddy (managing director) and Dax Eddy (executive director) and employs up to 250 people during peak periods through summer.
“Jamberoo hopes to continue the development and expansion of the park, with a focus on quality and customer experience. We have big plans for more world class rides and park features on the back of a successful 2018/19 season,” Dax said.
“Fortunately the surroundings of Jamberoo remain pristine - and it is one of the reasons people come to the park – so we are happy that has not changed much.
“Ride technology, experience and staff training has improved over the years, and the online ticket purchase option helps reduce the queues with the majority of our customers buying their tickets this way nowadays. We do our best to give everyone a great experience from a day out at Jamberoo.
“Jamberoo Action Park would like to give special thanks to the local community for their support and continued strong uptake of the Season Pass offer.”
The 2018/2019 season will open on September 29. Go to jamberoo.net for tickets or to find out more.
