Emergency services were called to a home on Binya Place about 9.10pm and found a 65-year-old woman with minor injuries and a 37-year-old man with a head injury.
Police have been told an unknown male - armed with a spanner – entered the home and assaulted both occupants before fatally striking a small dog.
It is believed the man stole a small safe and cash-box before fleeing on foot.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene before taking him to Wollongong Hospital.
The woman was treated at the scene.
