But a UOW spokesman has contacted the Mercury to correct some “factually incorrect” assertions made by Wollongong University Student Association presidential candidate Chloe Rafferty.
In a prepared statement, he said the University of Wollongong Council did not change the rules and scrap above the line voting.
“Above the line’ voting requires a minimum of two groups in order to have a fairly contested election. With only one eligible Group Ticket received, the ‘above the line’ group voting system could not be used in this election.
“All eligible candidates associated with the three Group Tickets have been allowed to run as individual candidates, and to campaign under their respective group identities”
The statement continued that because the WUSA Regulations had not been changed, in future years a contested ‘above the line’ election between eligible groups remained an option.
WUSA voting was slated to end on Thursday, October 18 at 5pm.
