There were toys stacked up around every wall. Every available bench space kept piles of neatly stacked and perfectly wrapped presents bound for boys and girls around the world.
The cold temperature contrasted the heated work rate of the elves scurrying too and fro. There in the centre of the action, surrounding by a cool mist, was The Man himself.
Santa Claus.
This week the Illawarra Mercury sent a team to the North Pole to see Santa Claus hard at work. Wait until our HR department gets that mileage claim to sign off on …..
Anyway, we digress. It was a special opportunity to see Santa hard at work, getting ready to deliver presents on Christmas Eve. We Facetimed Santa’s personal assistants and managed to get a meeting request booked into his Google calendar.
As a result, Mercury photographer Adam McLean managed to get some wonderful images of Santa hard at work and one of those will feature on our Chrstmas Eve front page.
Santa was also keen that Adam recorded a special message to be played to the children of the Illawarra from 6 pm on Christmas Eve. We will play that on our home page and Facebook page.
Santa will remind the children to get to bed, be good and go to sleep early. After being given a special cup of Santa’s hot cocoa, our team from the Mercury returned from the North Pole to make sure the children of the Illawarra got the message.
So children, we can certainly confirm Santa is real. Besides, you know what happens when you stop believing in Santa right? That’s when socks and undies are the only things you get in your Santa sack.
Best you don’t stop believing.
Here at the Illawarra Mercury we’d like to say a special thank you to our friends at Wollongong Central for helping put us in touch with Santa. Santa makes regular appearances at his grotto in Wollongong Central and you can go along to have your photo taken with Santa. Go to wollongongcentral.com.au to check times or to make a booking. Bookings are essential for pet photography or sensitive santa.
