The 31-year-old allegedly stole a bottle and ran from a liquor store on Burelli Street about 12.30pm after he was confronted by an employee.
The accused then entered a hair salon, Nuts about Hair, on Kembla Street about 3.40pm before allegedly demanding cash and threatening a staff member with a knife. He then fled the shop with money in hand.
Wollongong Police District officers searched for the man and found him in Crown Street a short time later.
He was taken to Wollognong police station where he was charged with armed robbery, larceny and an outstanding warrant.
He was refused police bail and will appear at Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.
