The government is moving forward with the planned construction of the first stage of the project between Arncliffe and Kogarah.
Labor has voiced its opposition to the twin four-kilometre tunnels, Keira MP and Labor's Treasury spokesman Ryan Park calling it a "stupid project".
This week, Roads and Maritime Services put out a call for companies to register interest in the design and construction of the first stage of the road, with a deadline of February 28.
If the government signs a contract, we’re locked in.
- Labor leader Michael Daley on the F6 extension
The caretaker period of government starts on March 1, after which no contracts or decisions on projects can be made.
If the government did sign off on the F6 extension before then, Mr Daley said he would not be tearing up the contracts if Labor won the March 23 election.
"If the government signs a contract, we’re locked in," Mr Daley said.
"We’re not going to engage in that sort of risk. We’re not going to tear contracts up and then pay multinational companies money to do nothing.
"If they sign contracts in a bloody-minded way, we can't get out of them."
