The woman who masterminded the kidnapping of a couple whose bodies were found burning in barrels at Nowra has been jailed for at least 24 years. Double murderer Kim Leanne Snibson was sentenced to a maximum term of 32 years this morning, in the NSW Supreme Court in Sydney.Justice Terrence Buddin said he could not determine at whose hand or at what time Nowra Hill couple Kathryn McKay and Greg Hosa died as all three offenders involved in their kidnapping and murder gave different versions of events. The couple's bodies were found on January 29, 2006, badly burnt in 44-gallon drums in the Tomerong State Forest.Justice Buddin said Mr Hosa and Ms McKay must have suffered slow and painful deaths after being detained at Snibson's Calymea St house for some time before being killed.``They were totally defenceless and at the mercy of the offender,'' he said.Justice Buddin described various elements of Snibson's version of events that day as ``quite fanciful'' and an ``elaborately designed piece of fiction''.During her sentencing proceedings last month, Snibson said her accomplice Stacey Lea-Caton struck Mr Hosa during an argument at her house sparking off a series of events which led to Mr Hosa and Ms McKay's grisly deaths. She had said she feared his violent anger and simply did as she was told that day.Today, Snibson, 38, showed no emotion as she was sentenced to a 24-year non-parole period in jail. Her accomplices are already serving their sentences: Stacey Lea-Caton, 29, of Nowra pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering the couple in November and is serving a 22-year sentence while Andrew Wayne Flentjar, 33, of East Nowra, is serving a 10-year sentence for assisting in kidnapping the couple. A jury acquitted him of murder in June.
