The 25th anniversary of Australia's biggest doggy day out, RSPCA's Million Paws Walk, is happening this Sunday, May 19.
As part of the silver jubilee of the nation's walk to end animal cruelty, an event will take place at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra.
The 1.5km walk will begin at 10am.
The community can also enjoy a family fun day with their dogs on the foreshore of Lake Illawarra.
There will be musical entertainment, jumping castles, plenty of food and beverage stalls, crafts for the kids, face-painting and more.
RSPCA Illawarra volunteer branch president Ann Dewson said last year's Lake Illawarra event had drawn 1300 people and 700 dogs.
"It's such a fun day for the whole family," she said.
"It's not a long walk, so it's not taxing for anyone. But they can do the loop as much as they want if they prefer a longer walk."
On the day, there will also be a fancy dress competition, Doggy Games and an auction of vet vouchers.
"The kids love the dog games, because they can participate in games with their dog," Mrs Dewson said.
Mrs Dewson said the funds raised would be spent in their Unanderra shelter to establish an activity area for the dogs.
"We're hoping to get that under way quite quickly; it's quite a big undertaking," she said.
The event runs from 9am to 2pm.
