Polling booths across the Illawarra started with queues just before opening at 8am on Saturday as people lined up to vote early.

But within minutes they had gone and a slow but steady stream of voters began filtering through.
Those representing their parties outside the the booth at Wollongong Town Hall were expecting a constant flow all day.
Many of the early voters were doing so on their way to work, sport or other engagements.
