Last weekend the Illawarra Mountain Bike Alliance spent several hours hauling rubbish out of the Mt Keira bush along Harry Graham Drive.
Lounge suites, car tyres, and a washing machine were among the rubbish dragged out to the roadside.
"All the mountain bike riders are just sick of seeing all the rubbish dumped and we just thought we'd do something about it," said alliance committee member David Wood.
The bikers left the rubbish on the side of the road and notified council.
A crew was sent up to Harry Graham Drive to pick up the rubbish on Tuesday.
Due to its isolated location illegal dumping has, and continues to be, a challenge in this area.

A spokeswoman for council said they worked with many groups who were keen to clean up the bush along the Illawarra escarpment.

"We know our community value their local environment and we work proactively with more than 100 community groups and organisations to coordinate clean-up activities throughout the year," the spokeswoman said.
"We're able to support their activities by supplying materials such as rubbish bags, to advise on work, health and safety steps that should be undertaken prior to a clean-up and to coordinate post-event rubbish collections."
The spokeswoman said council viewed the Mt Keira area as a hotspot for illegal dumping.
"Due to its isolated location illegal dumping has, and continues to be, a challenge in this area," she said.
"We encourage anyone with information about illegal dumping activities to contact council or the NSW Police so that an investigation can be carried out."
The spokeswoman said council rangers regularly patrol these areas and will investigate any dumping site for evidence that may lead to a prosecution.
The council has also installed added signage in the Mt Keira and Cordeaux road areas encouraging people to report dumping.
