It appears to be a thing of the past with the club appointing brothers Brad and Greg 'Buster' Reh as first grade coaches for 2020 - the latter as a player/coach.
With the Reh name synonymous with the Wests Illawarra football club, both come to Group Seven with a wealth of experience and success in their careers.
Brad, won seven premierships as a player with the Devils, to go along with three as reserve grade coach, while Buster was integral in Wests' three-peat (2009, 2010 and 2011), while also representing NSW Country.
"We were approached last year to do their reserve grade side but the timing wasn't right," Brad said.
"But three months ago, the club and we got talking again, this time about the first grade side. We went and watched a couple of the club's game towards the end of the season and really liked the way they held themselves on and off the field."
Greg said he and his brother are excited about what they can bring to the club.
"They were in matches for stretches of games but a lack of decision making and composure hurt them," Buster said.
"One thing that was never lacking was their heart and willingness to never give up. The club has one of the best junior bases in the region and we want to be a part of building this club from the ground up - it's an exciting challenge that we can't wait to start."
